A History of the Commercial Company CONTED Dorohoi
On 01.12.1963, within the dilapidated building of the girls High School „Regina Maria” from Dorohoi, it was established the IIIrd division of the Garment Factory Botosani – the nucleus of the future Garment Company, Dorohoi, where a number of 170 persons were employed.
Initially designed as a solution to provide work for the people in the area, the division was assigned, within the planned statist system, as main production assortment, the protection and work equipment.
On 01.01.1967, by HCM 3049/1966, the above division is granted a legal entity, separating itself from the Garment Factory Botosani, being registered within the State Registry held by the Ministry of Finance, like the Garment Factory Dorohoi. At that time, the company carried out its activity with a number of 8 linen teams and 6 trousers teams, having a number of 607 employees, from which 569 workers.
Once the Dorohoi Garment Factory was established as an independent unit, they took over from the Botosani Garment Factory the assets found within the division, together with the planned tasks related to these ones for the year 1967, which compared to the actual achievements of the year 1966 showed and increase by 40%.
Since 1970, the teams working on linen were reconverted on boy suits – protection school uniforms for the IIIrd partition. It was still in 1970 when the company started to take over export orders as well.
During the IVth quarter of 1972, the company experienced the first development that doubled its capacity. Following this development, the productivity growth and the assortment change, in 1975, the company had plan with an overall production representing 565% compared to 1967 and 332% compared to 1971, and the employees’ number represents 214% compared to 1967 and 210% compared to 1971.
Between 1976-1980, the IInd overall development stage occurs, which is 2.1 times greater than the one in 1975, achieving a work productivity enhanced by 74% when compared to the same period. During this period, the company stabilized its assortments, performing cloth and denim trousers for men, teenagers and children, as well as denim work equipment.
A part of these products were performed in large series, reaching 100 and even 150 thousand pieces per quarter, concomitantly with the performance of other small series products, at a level of hundreds per article and model, according to the requirements of the company’s clients back then and in order to cover the productions capacities. At the same time, the production quantity intended for exportation increased as well.
During this period, a series of new equipment was brought within the company, especially for the divisions established during the first development stage, which was entirely equipped with highly productive machines.
As organizational structure, the company was organized on two workshops, one for every shift, within them, being organized work teams, serviced by one team performing the cutting. As auxiliary units, a mechanical workshop and a heating station were operated.
Always during that time, the company qualified its teams on three product groups, such as: trousers, overall suits and coveralls. When occasional orders occur, these ones are executed by two specialized teams, and in particular cases, when their capacity did not allow the performance of the concerned orders entirely, these ones were distributed to other work teams as well, according to their workload and the qualification degree of their workers.
Between 1985-1986, the IIIrd development stage of the company occurs, by the establishment of the last production capacity.
By the end of 1986, the total number of the company’s employees reached up to 2707 people from which 2591 are workers. Still then, a number of 20 engineers, 7 economists, one jurist and 2 engineering assistants were employed within the company.
Since 1986, the company’s production was diversified, performing the entire range of garments, from pyjamas to men suits, coats, raincoats and blazers for men, women, and children, both for the internal market and for exportation.
Since 1991, the unity is transformed in a joint stock company, the owner being always the Romanian state. The social system change, the disorganization of its main CAER, forced the company to differently approach its functioning and development strategy. The assortment structure of the production is limited to assortments that came to represent it and with which the company imposed itself on the new markets of Western Europe.
1995 is a year having a particular signification, by the fact that the company became a private owned company, this allowing it to really express itself as an element involved within the market economy
With an ambitious investment plan, around 1 million dollars in two years, an upgrading process of the technical equipment is started, being focused on representative assortments: men suits, trousers, jackets, coats and overcoats, and women suits and overcoats.
With a built-up area of over 12.000 m2 and with modern equipment of over 4 million dollars, SC Conted SA Dorohoi currently produces 800 jackets and 600 trousers per day, production entirely intended for exportation to countries like: France, UK, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands etc.
SC Conted SA Dorohoi has been granted some awards for quality and economic efficiency by the Romanian and foreign Trade Registries.
Since 1963 and till today SC Conted SA is still a quality and a service leader in Romania in the industrial production of men and women formal and city wear.
